ABOUT ME
The reflective qualities and vibrant colours of glass have always fascinated me and since retiring from a lifetime in business and journalism I have time to further my hobby as a glass artist. I have taken several short courses at the Ulster University Art College and at the Newtownards studio of International glass artist Karl Harron who continues to be my mentor. I am a member of the Ulster Society of Woman Artists committee and exhibit regularly in their Exhibitions receiving the Gladys Morrow Award for innovative sculpture at their Diamond Anniversary Show. My work has also been displayed at the Mossley Mill Gallery of Antrim and Newtownabbey District Council and appeared in Conde Nast's World of Interiors publications. In the 2018 I was delighted to have one of my plaques preselected for the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts 137th Annual Exhibition but unfortunately it did not make it through the final stage. .
I produce three dimensional art some presented on impressive polished steel fabricated to my design by ltalented arts graduate Peter Lorimer, a range of art panels, large decorative bowls, customised splashbacks and windows (which have been double glazed, laminated and installed by leading window manufactures).
My work is designed, cut, shaped then kiln fused from dozens of different specialist glasses in the Bull's Eye Company's portfolio. Over the last 30 years this innovative American Company has researched and developed thousands of fusing glasses - transparent, opalescent, iridised, dichroic, collage, streamers, streaky, reactive and reeded as well as other accessory glasses eg. stringers, rods, frits, powders, strikers, and confetti. I combine these sophisticated contemporary glasses to give the complex colour palettes, the shapes and textures which are the hallmark of my work.
